There are 3 types of blood pressure monitors: mercury column,
aneroid, and digital. Aneroid and digital monitors are the types
most commonly used for at-home blood pressure monitoring.
The auscultatory or Korotkoff method of measuring BP has been the
traditional approach for measuring SBP and DBP. However, for
reasons described in Types of Sphygmomanometers, the auscultatory
method of BP measurement is being replaced by the use of
oscillometric devices in both clinical practice and research
setting.
